Writing Task 1: Writing an Email

Read the following information.

You recently made reservations for dinner at a very famous and expensive restaurant in town. However, the meal and the service were terrible. The restaurant manager was not available to solve the problem, so you left without a resolution.

Write an email to the restaurant's manager in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • State what problems you had with the food you ordered.
  • Complain about the service.
  • Describe how you want the restaurant to resolve the problem to your satisfaction.

Dear Manager, I am writing this email to express my concern about the poor food quality and the customer-facing staff experience I faced during my visit to your restaurant last Friday. Albeit I had many options of seraphic hotels, I selected your restaurant due to outstanding reviews online. I have selected this hotel for the celebration of my son's 10th birthday party. To avoid any confusion and surprises during the birthday party, I did call you and decided on the whole menu, which includes starters, main course, and desserts. But to my surprise, I found most of the items were not as per our discussion, and the food items served were below my expectations. Since you were not available on the spot, I expressed my discontent to the other Manager, but he did not give attention to my issue. It was humiliating in front of my relatives and office staff. Looking at my experience, I don't think I will recommend your restaurant to anyone else. I would suggest you improve the food quality, or maybe you can think of changing the chef. Secondly, please inform in advance in case you are not able to serve the agreed menu. I hope you will implement my suggestion to gain the confidence of your loyal customers. Regards, Mark
