Writing Task 1: Writing an Email

Read the following information.

You recently made reservations for dinner at a very famous and expensive restaurant in town. However, the meal and the service were terrible. The restaurant manager was not available to solve the problem, so you left without a resolution.

Write an email to the restaurant's manager in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • State what problems you had with the food you ordered.
  • Complain about the service.
  • Describe how you want the restaurant to resolve the problem to your satisfaction.

Dear Manager, I am writing this email to express my dissatisfaction with the terrible experience I had with your restaurant's service and food. We booked a reservation for our anniversary after reading the great reviews online. But after our entire experience, we are pretty stunned. We ordered 'Special Butter Chicken Curry' with no peanuts, as I had mentioned to the waiter I am allergic. I gave these instructions twice, as I did not want any confusion. Yet, we received the order with peanuts. I asked the waiter politely to change the order as it was not what I had ordered. The waiter did not change the order and asked me to eat what is served and did not care about my allergy. I warned him his behaviour is deplorable, and I would be complaining to the management about his unwarranted and unprovoked attitude. When I asked for the Manager, the other waiters said he is not available, so I decided to write an email to you. To rectify the problem, I would like to suggest that you keep polite and trained staff and teach basic work ethics. Regards, Mark
