Read the following information.

You are working for a company. You need to take some time off work and want to ask your manager about this.

Write a letter to your manager in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • Explain why you want to take time off work
  • Give details of the amount of time you need
  • Suggest how your work could be covered while you are away

Dear John, I am writing to let you know that my brother just informed me that my mother was diagnosed with a severe disease, and she is currently very serious at the hospital. This unexpected news made me feel the necessity to be with my family now. Therefore, I would like to ask you if I can have one week off from work from Monday. I intend to travel to Vancouver, where my mother lives. I want to visit her at the hospital and to help my bother and father, giving them any support they may need at this painful moment. Hopefully, one week will be enough to have the situation controlled and my mother back home. Since I don't want to leave a gap on our team, I called Barbara, and she agreed to step in for me during this one week, and I'll do the same for her when she takes her vacation next month. I would appreciate it if you understand this moment I am going through right now. Many thanks for considering my request. Samuel
