Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions

Read the following information.

You live in a small town of 10,000 people. A large green area in the centre of town is undeveloped. The city has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents would like to have built in that area.

City Development Survey :

Option A: Shopping Complex: This shopping mall would include restaurants, a large supermarket, and a movie theatre.
Option B: Recreational Park: This park would include a sports complex, a large green area, and a small petting zoo.

To whom it may concern. I agree that the largely undeveloped area in the centre of our town should have been used for something more beneficial a long time ago. As a town resident, I would prefer to have a recreational green park with a fitness complex and petting zoo, which is option B. There are many reasons why I believe this is the right decision to make. Firstly, this recreational park will provide a place where residents will spend time together with their families. We will be able to do picnics or go for a walk and breath in the fresh air. Also, a sports centre will benefit those people who are interested in physical activities but do not have fitness facilities to work out regularly. Furthermore, our children's petting zoo will be greatly appreciated because I believe that exotic animals are fantastic entertainment for youngsters. Besides, I suppose that option A is not a fantastic idea due to several reasons. Firstly, a shopping mall will attract enormous people from different towns, and they will drive there by cars. Our town has always been a tiny place, and the road system has not been developed for dense traffic. It will create a problem with traffic jams and pollution. Secondly, it will turn our lovely and quiet town into a crowded place. Thank you very much for the survey. I am looking forward to significant changes in our town. Regards, Mike.
