Writing Task 1: Writing an Email

Read the following information.

You have received a letter from your bank, asking you to acknowledge receipt of a new bank card. However, the card was missing from the envelope.

Write a letter to the bank's head office in about 150-200 words. Your email should do the following things:

  • explain why you are writing.
  • express concern about the missing card.
  • ask them what they intend to do.

Dear CIBC Manager, I am writing to report a missing card. I have asked for a new card, since my old one was not working and today I finally received a CIBC envelope in my mailbox. But the most intriguing is that when I opened it, everything was there except for the credit card itself. In the envelope I found three different things. There was a congratulation letter, a small book with the new card's essential guidelines and a third paper where I expected to see the card. I could even see the designated area that the card should have been placed because there was a square space on it saying Here is your new card, but strangely nothing was there. I became instantly worried because I thought that someone could have opened my mail and that I would have future problems with somebody misusing my card. Fortunately, I do not think this is the point, as I made sure that the envelope was completely closed before I started opening it. Something must have happened before the package left for delivery. Please let me know what is the procedure now and if you need further information. Sincerely Tony
