Writing Task 2: Responding to Survey Questions
Read the following information.
You live in a small town of 10,000 people. A large green area in the centre of town is undeveloped. The city has sent out an opinion survey to see what residents would like to have built in that area.
City Development Survey :
Option A: Shopping Complex: This shopping mall would include restaurants, a large supermarket, and a movie theatre.Option B: Recreational Park: This park would include a sports complex, a large green area, and a small petting zoo.
In my opinion, I believe building a recreational park would be more beneficial for the town than a shopping complex. Even though the shopping mall would encompass several attractive amenities for people of all age group, I believe the advantages offered by the park is much more useful to the community. Having a recreational park with sports facilities ensures a healthy lifestyle. People can use the park's facilities such to do several physical activities such as jogging, running and walking for improving their health. Also, youngsters and school kids can use the sports complex within the park to learn tennis and hockey after their study time. A few years back in Strathfield the township opened a park with sporting facilities and gym that helped to improve the overall fitness of the town's people. Building a shopping complex is difficult without destroying a large portion of the town's green cover because, in addition to the main mall, buildings and spaces to park vehicles should also be constructed. This means, that a lot of trees have to be cut down which would disrupt the local weather pattern and ecology. In addition, there are chances for an increase in pollution levels in air which is now kept in check by these trees. Considering these, I think having a recreation park is more beneficial than a shopping complex but I will support whatever decision you make. Thanks for asking our opinion.
